The number of energy recommendations issued by Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn since 2020 is now approaching 1,750. In 2024, around 125 were added. This is a lower score than in previous years, although the number of requests has shot up again in recent months. This is evident from the half-yearly report of the Energy Coach Coordination Team (ECT) on the second half of last year.

Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn is one of the parties involved in setting up and realising the Energy Transition House. This will be a place where companies and educational institutions in Alphen work together on issues relating to the energy transition and its impact on the labour market and education. Residents and organisations will also be able to obtain information there about saving energy or generating sustainable electricity (together). Energiek Alphen plans to offer training courses and start an Energy Shop there in the future.

We generate as much of the energy we use in our municipality as possible ourselves. Residents, businesses, organisations/associations and the government (municipality and province) work together and decide how and where sustainable energy is generated.

In short, this is the starting point for the Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn cooperative in the council's participation process regarding future locations for wind turbines and solar fields.

On 19 December, the municipality and Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn signed a cooperation agreement for the years 2025-2028. “We are delighted that this collaboration will enable us to make an important contribution to achieving an energy-neutral municipality by 2050: the municipality as the director of the energy transition and Energiek Alphen as an independent residents” organisation for energy issues," says Erik de Ruijter, chairman of Energiek Alphen. He signed the covenant together with secretary Wim van Aken and councillor Geert van den Ham (sustainability).

Benthuizen is building its own energy community. What opportunities are there for residents and organisations/associations in the village to, for example, generate and share sustainable energy together? Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn and the Benthuizen Village Council are joining forces to put residents on the right track. The first concrete actions have already been set in motion.

Pupils from Het Vianova primary school and Prisma VSO spent six weeks working as junior energy coaches in October 2024. Together with their class and at home, they carried out all kinds of assignments to save energy. They recently received their Junior Energy Coach diploma.

On 11 November 2024, administrators from various village centres, neighbourhoods, associations and organisations within Alphen society attended the Energiek Alphen event entitled 'Samen Slimmer Verduurzamen' (Becoming Smarter and More Sustainable Together). They discussed energy conservation and the generation and sharing of sustainable energy. What are the possibilities for this and how can we become smarter and more sustainable together?

The meeting was for administrators/volunteers involved in managing buildings (such as a clubhouse or community centre) or representing the interests of residents in their village centre or neighbourhood. So the participants also brought stories from their own neighbourhoods. “We gave them plenty of space to share their own experiences, because we've noticed that real-life stories generate a lot of enthusiasm among others,” says Erik de Ruijter, chair of Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn and initiator of the Samen Slimmer meeting.
