As part of the ‘Energiehulp’ project, Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn and Actief Rijnwoude are helping residents of the municipality to reduce their energy consumption at home. Even small changes can be enough to save a hundred euros or more on your energy bills. Our Energy Coaches and Energy Handylists are on hand to offer advice and practical help.

Information sessions

Would you like to get involved and reduce your own energy bills? Then come along to our information sessions:

  • Monday 12 October 2026 at Mozaïek Community Centre, Parelstraat 2, Alphen aan den Rijn.
    Dutch is spoken from 10.00 to 11.00 and Arabic is spoken from 11.00 to 12.00.
  • Monday 12 October 2026 at De Plataan Community Centre, Snijdelwijklaan 2, Boskoop.
    Arabic is spoken from 2.00 pm to 3.00 pm and Dutch is spoken from 3.00 pm to 4.00 pm.

During the information sessions, you’ll get useful tips on how to save energy at home. Do you need help? Then make an appointment with an ‘Energy Handyman’. They’ll come to your home – free of charge – to help with things like fitting draught excluders, installing foil behind the radiator, replacing old light bulbs with LED lighting, and so on. Free of charge? Yes, these measures are carried out free of charge and you don’t have to pay for the materials.

Background to this project

Within the municipality of Alphen aan den Rijn, various organisations offer energy support to residents. How can people who need a little extra help – as well as other residents – receive support to save energy at home? The local authority, Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn and Actief Rijnwoude have mapped out the available support and developed a joint approach to make this assistance more accessible.

So-called frontline professionals (such as GPs) and organisations such as the Food Bank, Participe, Tom in de buurt, the Kringloopwinkels and the Kledingbank are also involved in this project. These are all organisations that have frequent contact with residents for whom the energy assistance is primarily intended. These include people on a tight budget, those with a smaller social network, and people who find it difficult to find the right support services on their own.

There are two pilot projects on the programme:

A campaign to recruit twenty residents through Actief Rijnwoude and the Alphen aan den Rijn & Surrounding Areas Food Bank, with whom a home visit will be arranged. The possibilities for energy-saving measures will be discussed with these residents, along with how they can be helped to actually implement those measures.

The second (similar) pilot project is being carried out in collaboration with other partners; as part of this, home visits will be made to a further forty residents in 2027.

Will you become an Energy Handyman?

Actief Rijnwoude already has an Energy Team made up of volunteers who carry out odd jobs in people’s homes. Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn has a team of Energy Coaches and is now also recruiting Energy Handypersons.

As an ‘Energieklusser’, you feel a sense of connection to your neighbourhood and its residents. You’re a volunteer who enjoys rolling up your sleeves and making a difference to others’ lives. You help neighbours with ‘small’ energy-saving measures in their homes. Examples include fitting draught strips, applying radiator foil, replacing incandescent bulbs with LED lighting, or fitting a water-saving shower head. For residents, your efforts make all the difference: lower energy consumption and a more comfortable home to live in.

These measures are relatively easy to carry out. However, not everyone is equally adept at this, or may be limited in what they can do due to physical circumstances. For these people, you, as an Energy Handyman, are a lifesaver.
