Should you invest in a home battery or not?
Home batteries are currently the talk of the town. With a great deal of advertising on the radio, television and social media, as well as aggressive marketing tactics, potential customers are being encouraged to invest in a home battery. This can lead to poor decisions and high costs that are unlikely to pay for themselves. That said, a home battery can certainly deliver a decent return on investment, but only if it is suited to your energy consumption.
During Climate Week, Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn is holding an information session on home batteries: on Thursday evening, 5 November, at the Swaenswijk community centre, 2b Jongkindt Coninckstraat, Alphen. The event starts at 8.00 pm (doors open from 7.30 pm) and anyone interested in this topic is very welcome to attend. Admission is free.
Ferd Schelleman (founder and board member of Energiek Alphen and one of Alphen’s climate mayors) will give the introductory talk. He will outline what you need to bear in mind if you are considering purchasing a home battery and explain how best to use it. Common misconceptions will be addressed and dispelled. In short: you’ll find out how a home battery can be used in a way that’s both useful and cost-effective.
Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn is a local energy co-operative that aims to inform residents and help them save energy and reduce their energy bills. Energy coaches visit residents who have questions on this topic and would like advice. The subject of home batteries also comes up regularly. Energiek Alphen operates independently of energy suppliers and home battery manufacturers.
