Help build our local energy community

The ultimate goal for all residents, organisations and businesses is to make Alphen aan den Rijn an energy-neutral municipality. What can you do to help achieve this goal?

To get started: join us and register as a member of Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn. Membership is free. Together with people from your own neighbourhood or village, with sports clubs, social organisations, businesses and the local council/county council, we develop sustainable initiatives. In this way, we build a local energy community together.

What Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn is already doing to make residents of our municipality aware of the importance of taking sustainable energy measures:

  • Our Energy Coaches provide free advice to residents of owner-occupied and rented homes on energy-saving measures. They also help people prepare and implement these measures and explain what the next steps could be, such as generating your own sustainable energy or setting up initiatives together with local residents and organisations. They also advise on subsidy options.
  • A good example of developing projects together with neighbours (which can also be companies or associations) is the energy community Samen Slimmer Benthuizen. Click here for further information.
  • A roof with a surface area of 500 square metres or more is often very suitable for the installation of a solar power system. Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn assists you with the preparations, construction and management of the installation. It becomes the property of residents of the municipality through a so-called postcode lottery project. At Sunshine in Alphen you can read how that works.
  • Sustainably generated energy from such a postcode lottery project can be supplied directly to a local customer (company or organisation). The electricity is therefore not bought/sold by a commercial energy supplier, but supplied directly by our cooperative Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn. This is called Self-supply+.
  • Under the banner of Local4Local, we are working on sustainable energy generation and local energy use, energy storage, smart energy management and local ownership. Read more here more.
