Let the sun shine!
Zon op Alphen is an initiative of Energiek Alphen aan den Rijn. In 2018-2019, the Zon op Alphen energy cooperative completed the construction of two solar parks, GC Zeegersloot and Rijnvicus. These projects enable residents of Alphen and surrounding municipalities such as Aarlanderveen, Woubrugge, Ter Aar, Koudekerk, Hazerswoude-Dorp and Hazerswoude-Rijndijk to generate their own sustainable energy.
The Rijnvicus and GC Zeegersloot solar parks together form the largest so-called Postcode Lottery project in the province of South Holland and one of the largest Postcode Lottery projects on a roof in the Netherlands. At the time of its construction, the Rijnvicus roof, with 1,844 panels, was the second largest roof of all Postcode Lottery projects in the Netherlands, with an annual yield of 504,000 kWh. This is equivalent to the electricity consumption of around two hundred households. The yield of GC Zeegersloot (222 panels) is more than 59,000 kWh per year, enough for 25 households.
Zon op Alphen is a cooperative run by and for residents of the municipality who do not have a suitable roof at home to install solar panels, for example because of an unfavourable location or because they live in rented accommodation. Even if you already have panels on your own roof and there is no room for more, you can still participate. Homeowners' associations (for common areas) and businesses with a low-consumption connection can also participate by purchasing certificates.
Sunshine in Alphen has its own website with all the information about the project.
